Getting to Know the Rules of Badugi Poker

When playing with Badugi poker rules, understand that it is a triple draw game. To begin with, the dealer hands out four cards to each player. In each round, you can choose to discard anything from none of your cards Cmd368, to all of your cards and then draw the same amount of new ones to replace the dead cards. To get a Badugi hand, you need to create a rainbow hand. Ideally this hand should consist of A-2-3-4 and each card is a different suit.

Badugi poker rules are all about the low cards, not high cards so obviously the lower the cards the better. Also, try to avoid cards with the same value or suit. As explained above, this game is about rainbow hands – getting low cards all with different suits.

When using Badugi poker rules, there are a number of different kinds of betting. You have limit Badugi, pot limit Badugi and half pot limit Badugi. These days, there is also no limit Badugi, which is becoming more and more popular with people all over the world. The fixed limit games of Badugi are very common. This is where there are two sets of betting prices, a lower price for the first two betting rounds and a larger betting price for the following two rounds. The last two rounds of betting are limited.

To begin a game and play with Badugi poker rules, each player is dealt four cards each by the dealer, one card at a time. There are no community cards used in Badugi, unlike many of the other more popular well known games. Before anything is done with the cards, there is the first betting round. It is usually the player who sits to the left of the dealer who starts the betting off. Like many other poker games, the game is always proceeded clockwise.

After each of the three draw rounds of Badugi poker rules, there is always a betting round. It is time for the final draw once the third round of betting is finished. After the final draw, all of the remaining players have to go through a fourth betting round. So long as there is more than one player remaining, it is time for the final showdown. This is where the players show their hands to determine the winner. The players who had the losing hands can choose to ‘muck’ instead of showing their hands, which is similar to Holdem poker.

In Badugi poker rules, it is always the player with the lowest hand that wins the game and takes the pot. However, if there is only one player remaining because all of their opponents have folded, then the last remaining player gets to take the pot without having to show their hand. This is a good thing if that last player had been bluffing their way through the whole game.
